The Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Vitaly Savelyev, during his speech at the forum “Territory of Meanings” shared his opinion about the absence of airbags in new Lada cars. According to him, the absence of the option is a “temporary measure” and in the near future the Russian manufacturer will find ways to return it to the package.
“I think they will find an opportunity either for the production of pillows or from friendly countries where [к России] they treat us normally, we will receive supplies,” Savelyev said.
The minister was also asked if he would drive a Lada.
“We had a period when we were transferred to the Volga, remember there was such a story. I had a Volga, I also moved, I wanted to try it. But yes, the car was left unfinished for some reason, the idea fell through. But in principle, if the car is done normally, why not”, replied the official. Savelyev noted that while working at Aeroflot, he drove a service Mercedes.
Now that he doesn't have a dedicated car, he prefers Genesis, a luxury car brand from South Korean automaker Hyundai. The head of the Ministry of Transportation recalled that "an official is an official", and is willing to drive another car, since officials have "certain restrictions".
The release of the "anti-crisis" Lada Granta Classic '22 took place in mid-June. The car does not have airbags, air conditioning and other useful options, and its buyers sign documents agreeing not to drive a car abroad.
