Tim Cook in an interview with Wired said that Apple never plans to make Apple Intelligence paid.

We never talked about charging money for it. We think of it as something like multi-touch, which has revolutionized smartphones and modern tablets.

According to Cook, Apple began preparing to implement generative AI back in 2017, but the process was gradual.

In 2017, we built neural motion in our products. Even then, it was obvious that artificial intelligence and machine learning were of great importance. We realized that we needed to focus many of our people on these technologies – this is a new era for our products.

Cook also noted that Apple has no plans to invest in OpenAI or join the company’s supervisory board. [Wired]
