At the end of September, Player.ru announced the suspension of the offline store and customer service department “for technical reasons.” According to Shopper’s, since the beginning of October, the company’s partners and counterparties began to file claims to collect debts under contracts.
The publication counted more than 30 claims totaling almost 330 million rubles. The largest of them was presented by Sberbank: for 225 million rubles, the next hearing of the case is scheduled for January 20, 2025;
The electronics store stopped transferring money under the supply agreement as early as August, the lawyer for one of the suppliers, who is trying to collect the company’s debt through court, told the publication. The interlocutor noted that the chances of paying off the debt are “minimal” and suggested that Player.ru would face bankruptcy.
The founder of the store, Alexey Konyshev, in an interview with Kommersant stated that the company stopped operating “due to lack of funds to purchase goods.” In early October, representatives of Player.ru posted a message on the website informing that the store would resume operation in the Marketplace format. It is not specified when this will happen.
“Player.ru” was founded in 2002. The store became popular due to its wide range and low prices. In 2013, the company was ranked 21st in the ranking of the 30 largest RuNet companies by Forbes. Player.ru’s revenue was then estimated at $60 million.
This is not the first time the company has suspended operations. This first happened in 2018, when Player.ru’s Moscow office was raided. Additionally, in 2019, the court closed the company for 30 days after an inspection by the Federal Tax Service and the FSB, which found the store to be fraudulent with checks.
