In December 2024, documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for registration of a new domestic vaccine against coronavirus in the nasal form “Gam-VLP-Multivac”. The developer of the vaccine is the NF Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. Tatyana Grebennikova, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Head of the Department of Molecular Vaccination and Immunodiagnostics at the National Research Center, said that the registration of the vaccine is expected in 2025.
Grebennikova noted that the nasal and injection forms of the vaccine contain the same virus-like particles, including proteins from several variants of the coronavirus. This is done to minimize possible genetic changes of the virus and to allow the vaccine to adapt to mutations. He expressed hope that approval for the use of the vaccine in nasal form will be received in early 2025.
Phase 3 clinical trials for both forms of the vaccine are currently ongoing and nearing completion. According to Grebennikova, you can apply for a temporary registration certificate based on the data obtained from the first two stages. The final certification is planned to be received after the third phase of the research is completed in 2025.
