Start your day with protein. Protein provides the body with the amino acids it needs to produce antibodies and regenerate immune cells. Pam Hartnett, MPH, registered dietitian and cancer recovery coach, says:

Don’t forget the fiber. This will improve your gut health. There is growing evidence of a link between gut health and immune health. Fiber feeds the good bacteria in your gut and also has many other functions, such as regulating blood sugar, lowering cholesterol and increasing feelings of fullness.

Add probiotic foods to your breakfast. For example, Greek yoghurt, kefir. Probiotics maintain the balance of our bacteria in the intestine. Additionally, 70% to 80% of immune cells are found in the intestines.

Drink a big glass of water. Research shows that dehydration weakens the immune system and can also delay the healing process.

Get some natural sunlight. If you can’t get out in the sun in the morning, consider using a 10,000 lux light therapy lamp. It mimics daylight and signals the brain to wake up.

Start your day with movement. As soon as you wake up, do some yoga, do some light stretching, or go for a walk. Muscle movement is important for the proper functioning of the lymphatic system, which is important for immunity. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.

Think about how you sleep. If you’re constantly not getting enough sleep or tossing and turning all night, this can harm your immunity. Do your best to get at least 7 hours of quality sleep a day.
