This was made possible thanks to an agreement reached between Apple and the EU in July that provides access to third-party digital wallets.

Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay, noted that launching its own solution is an important step in competing with global players: “We are proud to be the first company in the world to offer an alternative to the iPhone.”

Vipps allows you to pay for purchases, send money to friends, pay online, donate and manage club cards – now all this is available in one application.

The service is already supported by a number of major Norwegian banks, including SpareBank 1 and DNB, and operates in 90% of terminals in the country.
