In terms of work tasks, the 9800X3D is definitely not a rival to the 9950X or 9900X in terms of price. It doesn’t perform much better than the 7600X3D in games, and it’s also 60% more expensive at official prices.
The expert decided to test Ryzen 7 9800X3D and other processors in Full HD, 2K and 4K to understand what happens at real graphics settings in games.
The test bench included an MSI Carbon X870 motherboard and an RTX 4090 graphics card.
The 9950X and 9800X3D have a dedicated gaming mode that can be enabled from the BIOS settings. It has a really positive impact on performance and power consumption. True, in PUBG (1080p, ultra graphics), for example, the 9950X increased by only 9%, and the 9800X3D by only 2%. You can see the test results below.

When tested at QHD and 4K resolutions, the measurements were as follows. In PUBG at ultra settings at 2K, the average FPS difference between the 5800X3D and the 9800X3D was 40%, while between the 7600X3D and the “king of gaming performance” it was only 1% (316 and 320 fps respectively). At 4K, the 9800X3D was 3% faster than the 5800X3D or 7600X3D (194 and 189 fps, respectively). You can see all the other results above.
