The question of assigning official weekend status to December 31 is not relevant now, since this date can be made non-working through transfers. This was told to journalists by the head of the Ministry of Labor, Anton Kotyakov, TASS reports.

“Today, our current holiday calendar allows us to make December 31 a day off so that citizens have the opportunity to prepare for the New Year holidays and celebrate the New Year with their families. Therefore, at this moment this issue is not so relevant due to the schedule we now have for both this year and next year,” said the Minister.
LDPR deputies proposed making the last day of the year a permanent holiday and submitted a corresponding bill to the State Duma in 2020. The authors of the initiative indicated that it would allow workers to “use the holiday more rationally, as well as maintain a balance of interests between employees, employers and unions”. The bill was rejected in early December.
In the last week of December 2024, the Russians will work from the 23rd to the 28th inclusive, that is, six days. The New Year holidays will begin on December 29 and extend until January 8, 2025, as indicated in the production calendar.
In mid-November, the head of the State Duma Labor Committee, Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR), announced that December 28 would not be shortened, since on that day the Russians would work until the 30th, which became a day off. The deputy called on employers to treat the postponement with understanding and give employees the opportunity to rest more.
