Isak Andik, founder of the Mango clothing chain, died on Saturday at the age of 71. The cause of the billionaire’s death was an accident, the company said in a statement.

According to the newspaper El País, citing judicial and business sources, Andik fell into the gorge while walking with his family along the trails of the Montserrat mountain range, in the Colbato region (Catalonia).

The businessman slipped and fell from a height of more than 100 m. Jonathan Andik, Isak’s son, who was nearby at the time of the incident, called the rescue services, but by the time the ambulance arrived the victim had already died.

The 71-year-old businessman was in good shape and enjoyed hiking in the mountains. Isak Andik was the richest businessman in Catalonia and one of the richest people in Spain. Forbes estimates the fortune of the Mango founder’s family at $4.5 billion.

Andik opened his first clothing store in Barcelona in 1984 and in 1992 the businessman took the company to the international market. Now the Mango chain has more than 2.1 thousand stores in 110 countries.

In March 2022, Mango announced the suspension of store operations in Russia; At that time the chain had 55 its own points of sale and another 53 franchised stores in the country. In July 2022, Mango’s partial resumption of work in the Russian Federation became known.
