The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) used AirTag last year to detect drug manufacturing equipment.
Border guards intercepted two packages from China, inside were presses and dyes for pills. They suspected the equipment was headed for a drug dealer and notified the DEA. The DEA decided to lower the AirTag to avoid its movement.
End up receiving drug charges in Massachusetts.
It is not specified why the DEA chose AirTag. A detective interviewed by Forbes suggested that Apple’s tag has the most accurate geolocation tracking found with samples.
