Ofcom has published its first proposals for the Online Safety Act 2023. The law regulating illegal content on internet platforms will introduce additional measures next year, including new proposals to remove illegal content. A crisis response protocol will also be created for emergencies.
Ofcom said companies must now carry out an assessment of illegal risks on their platforms within three months. Failure to comply with the new rules could result in fines of up to 10% of the platform’s global revenue or, in particularly serious cases, a court could block access to the service in the UK.
