“We analyzed more than 600,000 airline tickets sold on domestic routes in 2024 and the increase in the cost of air transport in Russia amounted to 22.5%, with an increase in sales volume of 5%,” said Umansky.

According to him, the average cost of a round-trip flight within Russia was 16.1 thousand rubles, compared to 13.14 thousand rubles in 2023. Some destinations have become significantly more expensive: for example, a flight from Moscow to Sochi and back has risen in price by 40%, up to 48.12 thousand rubles.

The PCT also analyzed data on nearly 1 million foreign airline tickets. The average price of a flight abroad and back was 42.1 thousand rubles; during the year it increased only 3%. The number of tickets sold for these flights increased 42% year-on-year, Umansky said.

He added that due to the increase in air ticket prices, Russian tourists increasingly began to prefer motorized transport. “Nearly 25 million tourist trips are made by car. In the Krasnodar region, the number of autotourists has increased, according to our estimates, by 60% by 2024,” said the head of the RST.

In October, ACRA analysts predicted that by the end of 2024 the total revenue of Russian airlines would reach 1.8 trillion rubles. “This is an all-time high. “This is influenced by both transportation growth and income growth,” said Alexander Gushchin, senior director of the agency’s corporate rating group.

At the same time, passenger traffic of Russian companies, according to the agency, has not yet returned to the level before the 2019 crisis (128.1 million passengers). In 2023 it amounted to 105 million people. According to Gushchin, growth is hampered by a lack of aircraft.
