The original hack dates back to 2022, when hackers They claimed to have accessed LastPass data that contained API tokens, customer keys, multi-factor authentication (MFA) seeds, and encrypted password vaults. While there is no official information explaining how the leak occurred, it is possible that the hacker responsible gained access to information that contributed to the hack. Hackers broke into the system even though the password vaults were encrypted because users were reusing weak or previously leaked combinations. This access, combined with weak or reused user passwords, resulted in multiple accounts being compromised.

Only time will tell if this series of attacks will continue, which makes you wonder if LastPass is safe. But how did the original rape happen? LastPass said hackers stole the app’s source code. In a subsequent attack, the hackers combined the stolen data with information discovered in another data breach.
The hackers then exploited a vulnerability in the remote access application used by LastPass employees. This allowed the hacker to install a keylogger on the PC of a senior LastPass engineer, which recorded all key entries.
