I watched the Russian film Brothers with Kirkorov and Dorokhov. This is a real cringe of the year, it was funny exactly twice

Today our comedy is in theaters, in which the authors decided to show together two fairly famous people in the world of modern humor and show business.

We have already seen this work by director Mark Gorobets, who has such projects as “Closed School”, “Shadow Behind” and “Tour with Ivanushki” (Have you watched any of the above?), and are ready to share their impressions.

But there are impressions.

Against the backdrop of absolutely non-competitive Russian New Year’s projects, the film “Brothers” seems to be a possible representative of the domestic comedy genre. For more than an hour I watched People’s Artist of Russia Philip Kirkorov change costumes and survive in the harsh conditions of the Sochi resort to the accompaniment of Denis Dorokhov – well that’s great.

Although no, I wouldn’t watch this movie a second time.

But, first things first:

Comedy for misanthropes

What is the film about: Slavik, a carefree Sochi slacker and ladies’ man, learns about a threat to his life – he urgently needs a donor from among his relatives. The only option is an unexpectedly found brother, who turns out to be the famous singer Philip Kirkorov. Slavik is ready to do anything to meet a pop star, but he can’t even imagine what his insidious plan has led to, which will literally turn into a bad dream for both.

Philip Kirkorov is no longer a newcomer to the big screen: over the past couple of years he has already appeared in the role of the Firebird in the film “The Last Hero: Messenger of Darkness”, then gradually he got several roles and cameos in “Yolki” and the unfunny “Self-Irony of Fate”, and now here is the big role of the brother, who at first is all pretentious and “starry”, but according to the plot he becomes good and generous.

In fact, if you look at all Kirkorov’s film shows in recent years, “Brothers” can be called the best project for the singer’s acting career. Perhaps because in the film he plays himself, the king of the pop scene, Philip Kirkorov.

As for Denis Dorokhov, this is a classic TNT product. Dorokhov starred in dozens of different projects, which is why he is recognized, and for some time he even likes it as a comedian.

Personally, I have never heard such funny jokes from him, and remarks on “toilet-related” topics can sound like laughter, which is what a classic Sergei Yuryevich Belyakov, TV viewer from Taganrog.

And now the two stars meet in the frame, a real spectacle awaits.badi-movie“, when the heroes, going through trials, get to know each other and become true friends.

The trailer clearly hinted at such a plot, which I liked more than the film itself.

However, don’t be fooled: 110 minutes of Spanish shame await you for the hero Dorokhov, a lot of jokes about his appearance, height and mental abilities. If we add to this the simplicity of the plot lines, the obvious cheapness of filming and blatant CGI, then the result will be an ordinary, mediocre product from TNT, for which it’s definitely not worth going to the cinema.

Personally, half an hour after the start of the film, I was waiting with fear for the next joke from the main characters, because the impression from them was as if you were reading “BashOrg” 15 years ago, or a column with anecdotes next to the scanword on the last page of the regional newspaper.

No wonder I was rooting for the otter in the mad otter scene. Twice.

Why don’t you want to believe heroes?

Even at the filming stage, the creators said that the heroes of Kirkorov and Dorokhov should become contemporaries. Pat and Patashon. These are the famous Danish comedians of the times of small cinema: the lanky and skinny Pat demonstrated calmness and equanimity, the plump, clumsy and fussy Patashon involved his friend in dubious stories, from which he himself easily got out.

However, in more than fifty films with the participation of this duo, not once did one insult the other. These were “comedy situations” in its classic form, when the viewer is interested in seeing how the characters cope in a given situation.

In principle, Kirkorova and Dorokhova also find themselves in difficult duet situations, but they have no desire to empathize. In the same jungle, civilization is just a mile away, the environment is not scary, and it seems that right behind that big stone there is a trailer for the film crew with hot food and freshly brewed coffee.

And if you don’t believe in the picture, then you don’t believe in the characters. The peculiarity is that the characters are so caricatured and absurd that they literally cause rejection.

Separately, I would like to note the paucity of the scenario in which a constant connection will be provided. After all, throughout the entire film, the heroes are hunted by three mercenaries, who mysteriously disappear towards the end. You will also see a tribe of local aborigines, and they tried to tie a love line into all this bacchanalia. Noah: all these plot twists are poorly implemented, and thanks to the creepiness of the main characters, the audience is not attracted to these details again.

As a result, instead of a light “baddie movie” with elements of drama, the viewer is treated to a kitschy and street comedy, which is not even provided for by the conditions, but awkward situationsin which you can smile exactly twice. I won’t say exactly when, you will understand for yourself. Let me just say that one joke is concerned with a “naked party”, and the second is with Kirkorova’s ex-wife.

All other funny (according to the creators) moments can cause a feeling of pity for the actors, which, it seems, is even difficult. But it’s not funny, that’s all.

It seems that I have not written a single positive word about the film, but this is not because I have an initially negative attitude towards Russian modern comedies on TNT. Perhaps it is this kind of humor that is now finding a massive response in the minds of this entire channel, because TNT remains one of the most popular among the entire television broadcast network.

I’m glad the actors had fun on set and got their emotions out there. The same Kirkorov had a case in an interview about how he found himself trapped in the mountains because of a mountain river that overflowed its banks, how he was actually bitten by a wild otter, and Dorokhov shared his impressions of working with Kirkorov himself and claimed that he and Philip are so different that this will look funny.

Very funny. Isn’t it funny?

However, in the film itself, which was shown on big screens, brotherly magic they didn’t deliver. If you have absolutely nothing to watch, then you can go once, and then come out after the session and say a thoughtful “mehhhhh” to yourself.

As a last resort, if the choice is between “Yolki 11”, “Brothers” and “Not the Diamond Hand”, which will also be released in cinemas very soon, I recommend going to see “Brothers”. In this film, at least the creators do not mock various comedies of the past.

And if you’re too lazy to go to the cinema, then watch the film “Brothers” (2024) by Max Barbakov with Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage in the lead roles. Although this film was made almost unnoticed by us, the story of two completely different brothers in it is revealed much better.
