The doorbell’s distinguishing feature is that it can scan faces and automatically unlock doors for residents, similar to how Face ID works on the iPhone. While Apple already supports third-party HomeKit locks, this project could involve partnering with a specific lock manufacturer to offer an “ecosystem.”
The doorbell is still in development and isn’t expected to be released until late next year. It will also use Apple’s own new networking chip to improve communication quality.
