Vladimir Putin signed a law that, starting January 1, 2025, will increase fines by 50% for exceeding the maximum permitted speed of cars. The document is published on the official portal for the publication of legal acts.

Changes are being made to the Code of Administrative Offenses. For exceeding more than 20 km/h the fine will be 750 rubles, for more than 40 km/h – 1.5-2.25 thousand rubles, for more than 60 km/h – 3-3.75 thousand rubles, for more than 80 km/h – 7.5 thousand rubles. Now the minimum punishment for this violation is 500 rubles, the maximum is 5 thousand rubles.
The law will also increase other penalties. For example, for running a red light, the driver will receive a fine of 1.5 thousand rubles (now – 1 thousand rubles), for not fastening the seat belt – 1.5 thousand rubles (now – 1 thousand rubles) and for driving while intoxicated. – 45 thousand rubles (now – 30 thousand rubles).
In addition, the period of validity of the exemption from paying fines will change. Starting January 1, it will be valid for the first 30 days from the date of the decision instead of the current 20. During this period, the discount will be 25%, and not 50%, as now.
The State Duma adopted a law on December 12 that increases administrative penalties for violating traffic rules. The Federation Council approved the document on the 20th of the same month.
