In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Zuckerberg denied rumors that he was building a doomsday shelter, saying it was “just” a basement with storage space and could serve as a hurricane shelter. The underground space includes a living area, mechanical room and escape hatch, according to planning documents.

Zuckerberg explained that the Kauai project is primarily aimed at raising animals to produce “the world’s highest quality beef.” He also dismissed the idea that the entire site was designed as a survival shelter and said the reports were exaggerated.
