“President Trump takes no position on this procedure. Instead, he respectfully asks the court to consider suspending the alienation law on January 19, 2025, while he [суд] is considering the case on its merits, which will allow the future Trump administration to achieve a political solution to the problems in this case,” Sauer said in a statement.

He notes that the president-elect of the United States opposes the ban on TikTok “at this stage” and also has his own account on this social network, which has 14.7 million subscribers. Sauer added that Trump believes the platform is “a unique environment for free expression, including political speech.”

ByteDance must sell TikTok to a US company by January 19; Otherwise, the service will be banned in the United States. According to Reuters, the country’s Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in this case on January 10.

In early December, the United States Federal Court of Appeals upheld a law forcing ByteDance to sell the service. The court opinion said the claims against the company were part of “a broader effort to counter the threat to the national security of the United States posed by China.”

Washington fears that TikTok’s connection to China increases the risk of Americans’ sensitive data ending up in the hands of Chinese authorities. ByteDance claimed that Americans’ data is stored in the United States on local company Oracle’s cloud servers.
