The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, published a post on the afternoon of December 31, which may mean an indirect summary of the year. We quote it verbatim:

“Access to some Russian media has been restricted in the EU under sanctions and DSA laws.
Meanwhile, all Western media channels remain freely available on Telegram in Russia.
Who would have thought that in 2025 Russian Telegram users would enjoy more freedom than Europeans?
DSA stands for Digital Services Act, also known as the Digital Services/Markets Act. The regulation was adopted in 2022, is valid throughout the EU and regulates content, advertising and information hygiene (the law is designed to reduce illegal speech and disinformation).
A few minutes later, Durov posted another update:
“On New Year’s Eve, we have planned a big update with unique gifts for our users. Unfortunately, Apple’s verification process took several days and we have yet to hear back from them. Thank you for your patience and happy 2025.“
