After many rumors about the GeForce RTX 5090, it’s time for the laptop version to appear on the radar. Insider Golden Pig Upgrade revealed on social network Weibo that the company’s graphics card will have 24 GB VRAM with GDDR7 modules.
According to sources, Nvidia will use 3 GB GDDR7 modules on the graphics card PCB, eight in total, for a total of 24 GB of video memory. If the model used the same GDDR6 protocol as the 4090, the new RTX 5090 would also have 16 GB, but GDDR7 allows the addition of another 8 GB module.
Meanwhile, the desktop version is estimated to use 32 GB GDDR7 with a 512-bit bus, allowing for higher capacity.
GDDR7 is a big change
VRAM will play a central role in the new GeForce RTX 50, thanks to the switch from the GDDR6 protocol to the new GDDR7, where each memory chip has speeds of up to 40 Gbps depending on the manufacturer.
But just because the new cards have 24GB to 32GB of VRAM doesn’t make them better per se; Nvidia will also use Blackwell server architecture in RTX 50. The set is expected to bring a generational leap in very high performance, especially in the flagship RTX 5090 models.
It is still important to consider all information as rumors, but Nvidia will introduce the new GeForce RTX 50 series at CES 2025 next Monday (06) at 23:30 (Brasília Time).
