Unlike The Witcher 3 with cloned NPCs and mechanical characters in Cyberpunk 2077, the new chapter of the Witcher series promises NPCs with their own lives and stories.

“We have a rule that every NPC must appear alive with its own story,” the game’s director, Sebastian Kalemba, said in an interview with Gamertag Radio.

One example is the village of Stromford in the gameplay trailer. In the video, a girl prays in a dark forest, thinking that her sacrifice will protect the village.

“Every character has a role,” Kalemba added. The village is isolated and its inhabitants believe in false superstitions about the forest god.

The graphics, behavior and facial expressions of NPCs promise to be even more impressive. CDPR strives to create the most immersive world possible, where every character feels alive.
