None of these games lived up to expectations: Skull and Bones received only a 59 score from Metacritic, XDefiant closed after six months, and Star Wars Outlaws sold only 1 million copies.
According to insider Jason Schreier, Ubisoft is at a crossroads and the company’s fate depends on the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, whose release has been delayed until February 2025. If the game fails, the company may have to seek salvation through sale or privatization.
Tencent and Savvy Games Group are already showing interest in acquiring Ubisoft. Success could give the company a chance to restructure and regain players’ trust.
