Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with several health consequences: liver, heart and mental damage, as well as an increased risk of cancer. But according to the World Health Organization, drinking even low doses of alcohol is a bad idea.

Meanwhile, even just one serving of alcohol a week increases the risk of developing cancer. There are also studies showing that this risk increases when less than one serving per day is consumed.

And it’s not just about cancer. In 2021, scientists from Oxford University discovered that no amount of alcohol is safe for brain function. Additionally, gray and white matter disappears with increased alcohol consumption.

Additionally, in 2022, the idea that moderate alcohol consumption is good for the heart has been debunked. Analyzing data from more than 300,000 people at the British Biobank, scientists found that even a few servings of alcohol increased the risk of hypertension and coronary heart disease. Experts also found that light drinkers are more likely than non-drinkers to develop heart disease that is not caused by alcohol. This was because light drinkers were more likely to exercise and not smoke.
