Apple emphasized that the data Siri collects is anonymous and random, and its main purpose is to improve the performance of the voice assistant. The company says this data is not sold to third parties. It is also worth noting that users can disable the data saving feature to improve Siri, which is done by default, and the decision in this regard is up to the user.

The case was filed against Apple in 2019. It was claimed that Siri accidentally recorded users’ private conversations. In response, the company did not provide detailed data use terms regarding human checking of records. However, the court later rejected the original claim due to lack of sufficient evidence. Over time, the case was reopened with new allegations that the data was used for targeted advertising.

Apple agreed to settle the case and pay $95 million in damages.
