Yandex will provide developers with access to its SourceCraft platform, analogous to the American GitLab, in February in technical preview mode, the company’s press service informed RB.RU. The first component of the site will be Yandex Code Assistant, which, using artificial intelligence, can “suggest” code.

“The platform includes tools for continuous integration and deployment, secure development, auditing and project tracking. In particular, SourceCraft offers a version control and code hosting system, as well as an automatic deployment service for CI/CD projects,” they said in the press service.

One of the main advantages of the site will be intelligent code review. Typically, to process large requests for code changes, developers switch to special IDE programming environments to see where this or that function is declared, where it is used, how many times and why it is called, Yandex noted.

They explained that these features are very important when reviewing code, but switching from platform to IDE takes time, which causes inconvenience. At SourceCraft, all of the above features will be available in the site’s interface, which will simplify and speed up code verification by programmers, according to the company.

Yandex also claims that neither other Russian services nor GitLab have such functionality. GitHub also has IDE capabilities built into the platform itself, but in a more simplified form, the press service added.

To get access to SourceCraft in February, you must submit a request on the project website. To sign up for the waitlist, you will need to provide your name, contact phone number, and email address.

Yandex introduced SourceCraft along with other tools for developing and managing cloud security in September 2024.

GitLab was launched in 2011 by Ukrainian programmers Dmitry Zaporozhets and Valery Sizov. In March 2022, the company announced the suspension of activities in Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine. GitLab is now based in the US and its clients include Goldman Sachs, Siemens and Nvidia.
