“On the Tyulyachi-Novaya Tura section, a break occurred in the main cable. The damage to the cable caused the degradation of broadband Internet access services in 21 constituent entities of the Russian Federation for approximately 3.8 million users,” said the Central Medical Directorate of the SSOP.

Emergency recovery teams are currently working at the scene. The fault in the main cable should be repaired at approximately 9:00 p.m. Moscow time, the center clarified.

The day before, January 14, a large-scale failure occurred on the Russian Internet, during which subscribers of the largest telecom operators, including MTS, T2, Beeline and Rostelecom, lost access to the network.

RKN called the outage a “short-term disruption to connectivity” and reported that the internet was restored the same day.

Vedomosti’s source at one of the operators associated the problems with problems with the technical means of countering threats (TSPU) of Roskomnadzor and the Main Radio Frequency Center subordinate to it.

TSPUs have been installed in the networks of Russian operators since 2019. They are designed to filter Internet traffic and block online resources banned in Russia using DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) technology, Forbes wrote.
