According to them, the company director wants Gemini to be used by 500 million people by the end of 2025. However, Google does not reveal the current number of users. OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, which competes with Gemini, was used by approximately 300 million people weekly as of December 2024.
Data from the Sensor Tower service shows that the ChatGPT app was downloaded about 465 million times and the Gemini app 106 million. Additionally, on January 15, Google’s neural network app was ranked 54th among the world’s most downloaded free apps. iPhone and chatbot application OpenAI took fourth place, writes WSJ.
The newspaper noted that Google was “caught off guard” by launching ChatGPT in late 2022, despite years of work on similar neural networks and its status as a pioneer in artificial intelligence. Since then, the company has been playing catch-up.
Google introduced Gemini in December 2023. Initially, the chatbot was available on the Google Play website and online store, but then the neural network application appeared on the App Store. In August 2024, the company launched Gemini Live, an AI voice chat.
