Todd Watts, grandson of the Australian brand’s founders Arthur and Faye Springthorpe, said on TikTok that the company’s products will now be sold outside of Australia and New Zealand under the name Since 74 instead of the original name Ugg Since 1974.
Watts added that it was “extremely difficult to fight a claim against a multi-million dollar company, especially an Australian family business”.
“[Since 74 — это] an ode to our heritage of handcrafting the world’s most exclusive Australian sheepskin boots for 50 years,” Watts said.
In late 2023, a trend emerged on TikTok where users were trying to find “real Uggs.” In numerous videos, people compared their UGG boots purchased in the 2010s to boots they purchased in more recent years. Some bloggers have noted changes in shoe quality and differences in design details.
