The Verge noted that despite the similarities to the first version of the device, the second is larger. Joy-Con game controllers now attach to the side of the console; According to leaks, they may be connected using magnets.
Additionally, there’s a new key below the Home button on the right controller, and the SL and SR buttons are larger than on the original Switch controllers. The video also suggests that the Joy-Con can be used similarly to a computer mouse.
Additionally, Nintendo has placed a new USB-C port on the top of the console, which is located next to the 3.5mm headphone jack. The Switch 2’s stand now looks more like a U shape and the charging station has a more rounded shape.
The console will be backward compatible with physical and digital games from the original Switch. The video warns that some Switch games may not be compatible or fully compatible with the Switch 2.
Nintendo will reveal more details about the new device on April 2 during a live stream called Direct.
The original Switch was released in 2017 and gained popularity among gamers, The Verge writes. According to Nintendo, as of September 2024, the company has sold a total of 146 million consoles.
