They had a pretty noble goal: to find out how the amount of VRAM affects performance in modern games.

The results showed that 16GB of memory provides a noticeably smoother gaming experience, especially in ray-traced scenarios, and eliminates degradation in textures and other graphics parameters.

According to tests, cards with 8GB memory experience VRAM limitations in many modern games, causing graphics settings to drop even at medium and low levels.

For example, in Cyberpunk 2077, which features active ray tracing, cards with 8 GB memory perform 43% lower than their 16 GB counterparts. In other projects, such as Dragon Age The Veilguard, the difference is even greater.

Experts emphasize that in 2025 video memory below 12 GB will no longer be enough for most modern games.
