The Google Messages app on these devices used the advanced messaging standard (RCS) by default. The vulnerability allowed attackers to remotely execute arbitrary code without requiring user interaction.
The researcher who discovered the vulnerability called it a “new attack surface” and noted that it works under certain but fairly simple conditions: The hacker only needs to send a voice message to the victim.
However, in December 2024, Samsung released a patch that fixed this vulnerability.
