Here are the signs that your cortisol (the stress hormone) is high, according to London-based GP Dr Nish Manek.
weight gain. This is especially true for fat around the belly. Other symptoms of high cortisol levels include fat accumulation in the neck and shoulders and a puffy, round face.
Fatigue and insomnia. People with high cortisol levels often have trouble sleeping.
High blood pressure and sugar levels. These levels may increase due to high levels of stress hormones. This brings with it the risk of hypertension and diabetes.
mood swings. People with high cortisol levels often experience depression, anxiety, and irritability.
bone weakness. When cortisol levels are chronically high, muscle atrophy and decreased bone density can occur.
Other symptoms. High levels of stress hormones are also indicated by skin that bruises easily, large purple stretch marks, decreased sexual desire, and fertility problems.
