According to sources, the supply limitation is due to communication errors between NVIDIA and its partners, as well as Chinese New Year celebrations. This has led to delivery delays and sharp price increases in some regions.
The price of RTX 5090 in China can reach $4,000; that’s twice the recommended price of $1,999. The RTX 5080 is sold for $2,000 instead of $999.
In Europe, the situation is aggravated by taxes that further increase prices. In the US, retailers are reporting that card availability is extremely limited: Only 20 copies of the RTX 5080 arrived in the first wave of shipments, and there are no RTX 5090s.
If the shortage continues until the end of spring 2025, it could leave most buyers unable to use new graphics cards.
