Google has opened public access to the beta version of the Gemini code assistance tool: this is an assistance for programmers based on the Gemini 2.0 generative model. This was reported in the company’s press service.

The service allows you to automate the spelling of the code, you can explain complex fragments and give recommendations through a chatbot. Gemini Code Assist is integrated into the popular development code of Visual Studio, Github and Jetbrains Development, and the interface is divided into two panels: on the left, a chat with indications of AI, to the right, the editable code.

Gemini Code Assist works with more than 20 languages, including Python, Java, JavaScript, C ++ and TypeScript. The free version allows you to obtain 180 thousand and submarines per month. By way of comparison, Github Copilot offers only 2 thousand automatic code improvements and 50 messages in Chatbot for free.

Context. Since April 2024, Gemini Code Assist has been tested exclusively between Google Cloud Partners. The tool is based on the Gemini 2.0 family, announced in December. It included Gemini 2.0 Flash for basic tasks, as well as the thought of Gemini 2.0 Flash for complex analysis.

  • Previously, Yandex published to open access to the new YandexGPT 5 Lite Pretrin generative model. The company believes that it will be useful for developers and commercial representatives who can receive it under their tasks and not waste time creating their own basic model.
