GPS (Global Positioning System) is used anywhere from car navigation to aviation control and sea ships. However, increasing dependence on a system makes the infrastructure vulnerable.

FCC Brendan Carr’s president, in recent years, intervention and “Spoting” cases (schedules of signals) have become more frequent, which can lead to serious accidents in aviation, he said. The problem has become heavier since 2023, when cases of intervention in GPS studies have been fixed more frequently. According to Carr, threats to the GPS system continue to grow, and dependence on it can provide the US economy and national security. Authorities have long been discussing the need for backup technologies search.

FCC aims to include state and special experts to develop new navigation and time synchronization systems (PNT) as an additional or alternative to GPS.

The US Federal Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) said that they have previously worked with international partners to protect satellite signals from hack and intervention.
