Scientists have found that the presence of microplasty reduces photosynthesis by an average of 7-12%. This may vary between 6 to 18% in land plants, 2 to 12% in marine plants, and 4 to 14% in fresh water algae.
At the existing plastic production rate and the effects of germs, farmers may encounter a 4 to 13.5% harvest in basic products (corn, wheat, rice). This will be in the next 25 years. Seafood production can also be reduced by 7%.
