The process is divided into three stages. First, the old batteries are crushed with strong machines to the state of “black mass – – a mixture containing valuable materials such as lithium, nickel and cobalt. Currently, Porsche has produced 65 tons of this item. Then, individual components are removed from it and cleaned for reuse. Finally, some of these materials will go to create new batteries for Porsche electric vehicles.
The company hopes that such a “closed loop olmak will not only reduce waste, but will also help to prepare for the strict rules of the European Union, which will have to process 80% of the batteries from 2031 onwards.
So far, the project is at an early stage, but already attracts attention.
