In a document opened to the San Francisco Federal Court on Friday, professors are called meta*defense based on the “honest use” doctrine. If this doctrine has changed significantly, it allows copyright materials to be used for new purposes, but professors believe that AI teaching does not fall within this definition.
Writers, including Sarah Silverman and Ta-nechisi Kouts, accuse Meta* of abolishing information about writing from books to violate their rights and conceal the violation. Judge Vince Chkhabria allowed the case to continue, stating that the accusations of copyright violations were right enough. However, Meta*insists that his actions are legal and expresses the support of other experts, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
