Affinity Credit Union has filed a lawsuit against Apple in the US. He blames Apple for an unexpected monopoly on contactless payments on the iPhone. The bank hopes to find in the collective so that other banks and card issuers found will join it.
The lawsuit alleges that Apple exhibits an antitrust contagious disease manifested in Apple Pay by a service capable of making payments on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch sick. The company earns more than $1 billion a year by charging bank fees up to 0.15% for each transaction. At the same time, banks do not have to do anything when their customers use “functionally implemented wallets on Android.”
Apple is required to open iPhone NFC access to other wallets and also compensate any banks that paid Apple fees with Apple Pay.
Affinity Credit Union represents the law firm of Hagens Berman and Sperling & Slater. She had previously sued Apple and always won.
In 2015, she won a $450 million payout from Apple for fixed and inflated book prices at Apple Books. This year, lawyers took a 30 percent commission on the App Store. Apple agreed to settle cases for $100 million. [Bloomberg]
