The results of a new study published in Nature magazine emphasize that climate change brings a large burden to today’s children.

Within the framework of the last study, scientists used climate models to create an unprecedented threshold for heat for different regions and air species, including heat waves, floods and forest fires. For example, for Brussels, this threshold was to get rid of the “excessive” heat wave, and these events would take place every 100 years without changing the climate.

In addition, experts used demographic data to calculate how it would change depending on the share of people who would reach this heat limit and global warming scenarios for several generations born around the world between 1960-2020.

It turned out that only 13 million or 16%out of 81 million people born in the world in 1960 reached the threshold of exposure to heat. And independent of the climate scenario. However, 58 million (approximately 50%) of 120 million children born in 2020 will experience this exposure level even in the most optimistic scenario (while heating 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre -industrial temperatures until 2100). If the temperature increases by 3.5 degrees Celsius, the share of excessive temperatures will be 92%.
