These elements are used in laser surgery, tomographs, microscopes and biosensor. They regulate polarization of the light that increases the clarity of images and the accuracy of the diagnosis. Previously, the production of such devices in Russia was dependent on imported materials and complex technologies.

The new prototype is a sandwich structure: a liquid crystal layer is placed between the transparent electrodes. When applying voltage, crystals change directing, which allows you to check the light parameters. Scientists have optimized every stage of production – from surfaces to distinguished materials – to make technology usable for collective release.

Now the device can immediately adapt to different tasks. However, developers are trying to improve the distribution of crystals and increase the reliability of components. This is necessary for fixed operation in various conditions, including medical equipment.
