Unlike other developers, it does not bet on Psquantum show models. The company aims to create a fully covered computer with a million cubes that can solve practical problems. As the basis of the cubes, photons – light particles are used that allow to reduce noise and cooling requirements.
The computer will be located on the territory of the old steel plant, which Illinois officials plan to create a scientific park. The state has allocated $ 500 million to this project, and 200 million dollars will go to the construction of installations for the production of liquid helium required to cool the system. A quantum laboratory will also appear under the auspices of DARPA and the new IBM center on the site.
Psquantum is already testing intermediate systems in the UK and Stanford, and larger assemblies are planned in Chicago and Australia. Despite the difficulties, the company is sure that they may cope with engineering difficulties related to scaling.
