As the scientific knowledge portal “Scientific Russia” states, it is important to consider the safety of existing underground objects, to take into account the petrophysical and geophysical data that later become the basis for the design of tunnels, but it may not be enough to define dangerous areas.
For experts, one of the problems is to determine the distance to the dangerous areas for passing the position of the tunnel complex and the distance of the tunnel and the distance to the diagnosis of Mountain Sett. In order to solve such problems, researchers used the multi -channel analysis method of surface seismic waves (MASW), which was previously used for underground objects.
Studies were conducted in an abandoned tunnel in Artyst – Tomosinskaya region. The seismic discovery from the western portal showed a weak case with the mountain massive, which can be associated with cracks and cavities that cause water infiltration.
The project participants noted that ground methods were used successfully in underground conditions to look for problem areas. “The results have shown that the observation and processing methods used in Earth engineering seismic discoveries as well as equipment are successfully applicable in the underground.”
