Instagram has been making major changes for some time now to compete with TikTok. The Meta app essentially modifies the user feed almost entirely, prioritizing Reels and leaving aside classic image or video posts. This, however, does not please some of the social network’s most famous stars, such as the two Kardashian sisters: Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jennerwho shared posts on their profiles scold the company and its intention to resemble the popular video app.

“Make Instagram Instagram Again” can be read in the screenshot that Kylie Jenner, with over 360 million Instagram followers, shared on her Stories. The post also mentions the intent of the app to be like TikTok and user demand because it is not: “(Stop trying to be TikTok, I just want to see beautiful photos of my friends). Sincerely, everyone”, you can read on the image.

The original post has already gained over 1,500,000 likes.‘ as of this writing, as well as Kim Kardashian, who currently has 326 million followers on the aforementioned social network. Users also opened a petition on Change.org which collects about 130,000 signatures.

Instagram and its intent to copy to TikTok

Instagram, we repeat, has been trying to change its entire app to resemble TikTok for some time now. This is not something the company is hiding. Adam Mosseri, head of the platform, revealed a few months ago that his goal was to transform the entire app to prioritize short vertical videos, leaving aside the classic posts that have so characterized the social network. The Instagram recommendation algorithm is, in essence, showing more and more drums before posts, and in some cases it’s even hard to tell if a user is browsing Instagram or TikTok.

In addition, Instagram is adding more and more TikTok-like features to its app. The platform now shows reel building recommendations and is being tested. new ribbon design, where vertical videos take up almost the entire width of the screen. Of course, there are still publications, but in a very, very background mode. For example, the profile photo button changed its position some time ago, becoming at the top of the screen and leaving the central icon at the bottom for the Reels section.

Interestingly, both Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner post videos to their Instagram account from time to time, but mostly to promote their products. But, Will both celebs (especially Kylie, who has more followers) be able to make Instagram go backwards?

Kylie Jenner lost over a billion dollars to Snapchat because of a tweet

Snapchat

This is not the first time that the influence of Kylie Jenner, the second most followed person on Instagram right after Cristiano Ronaldo, has rocked the social network. In 2018 Snapchat lost $1.3 billion after its shares fell 6.1% due to a tweet posted by a 24-year-old model and businesswoman. Kylie, in particular, assured that she no longer uses the application due to its terrible redesign.

It’s too early to know the impact that the posts both sisters shared on Instagram could have. Let’s remember that they did it through their stories, which are ephemeral, so after 24 hours everyone could forget the fact that both Kylie and Kim Kardashian don’t agree with the changes the company is making. Original post and petition in Change.orghowever, they can help Instagram make some changes.

As of now, no Instagram representative has commented on the matter. As is Adam Mosseri, the platform’s CEO, who routinely posts videos on his profiles claiming to be listening to users and that they are working on features they request, such as the ability to view the timeline. After all, the publications of the most famous sisters of the network can serve to promote the original publication and, therefore, the signature on Change.orgas a result of which complaints reached Mosseri himself.
