As part of a new scientific study, experts conducted an experiment with the participation of 51 Finnish men aged between 20 and 65 years. Volunteers were asked to reduce the amount of red and processed meat they consumed to 200 grams a week. At the same time, they began to eat more legumes (peas and beans). They made up 20 %of the total protein. As usual, they continued to eat other protein species.
Only six people who applied the new diet lost an average kilogram weight. This was surprising because they did not set their weight loss targets.
In addition, at the end of the study, the total and bad cholesterol levels of men who eat legumes were lower. This shows that the risk of developing heart disease is reduced. The iron levels of the participants also increased.
A control group also included in the study. 760 grams of red and processed meat a week consisting of 51 men who eat and do not contain legumes. As a result, cholesterol or iron levels in the blood did not heal in any way, but they also lost an average of 300 grams of weight, which was just a side effect of joining the experiment.
