According to media reports, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has approved the continuation of the competition between Boeing and Northrop Grumman. The winner is expected to be announced this week. The new F/A-XX will operate together with F-35C fighter jets and unmanned combat vehicles. The aircraft will be given increased flight range, improved stealth and control systems containing artificial intelligence elements.

According to Rear Admiral Michael Donnelly, the F/A-XX will be able to fly 125% further than current carrier-based fighters, exceeding the Super Hornet’s range of 500-650 nautical miles.
