Microsoft sent letters to some European countries, including Germany and Austria, explaining that the new rates would only apply to new subscribers, and users who enabled auto-renewal would keep the same price.
If you cancel your subscription and subscribe again, the new tariff will start to apply. According to users, the decision stems from EU consumer protection laws that prohibit changes to terms without notice.
The fact that Microsoft has not yet announced the full list of countries where the old price will remain has caused confusion. In other regions (US, UK, Canada and Australia) the increase will take effect in November.
The emails are sent from the official xbox@e.xbox.com address, but users are advised to be careful not to click on suspicious links.
