The South China Morning Post reports that the iPhone Air sold out in China within minutes of pre-orders opening.

Immediately after placing orders in all household appliance stores in Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities, the model disappeared from the display windows. Online orders now have express delivery within one to two weeks.

The rise in vivid emotions coincided with Tima Cook’s recent visit to China. During the trip, he took part in promoting the device and also met with Chinese officials, including Vice Premier Heng Lifeng.

Despite stiff competition from local manufacturers such as Huawei and Xiaomi, Chinese consumers continue to have strong interest in new iPhone models. [SCMP]
