In the coming months, Russia will begin to fine drivers without compulsory motor insurance with the help of traffic cameras, the Russian Union of Auto Insurers told Izvestia.

At the first stage, it will work in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Chuvashia. Since the law limiting the number of fines for lack of compulsory motor insurance to one per day has not yet been adopted, however, drivers can fine an unlimited number of times.

In addition, first of all, the presence of compulsory motor liability insurance will be checked only when other violations are recorded, for example, speeding.

The inspection of compulsory motor vehicle insurance by cameras throughout Russia should take place in October 2026. [Известия]
