Carriers and travel agents have contacted the relevant authorities to verify information about the new requirements. “Phuket Governor Sophon Souvannarath and the Immigration Office have advised that there are currently no plans to require tourists to provide bank statements when visiting the country. Therefore, the information in this regard is false,” the statement reads.
Previously, The Phuket News reported that the governor of Phuket proposed introducing the requirement to have 300,000 baht (about 864,000 rubles) in the account. According to the publication, the measure should attract wealthy tourists to the resorts.
At the beginning of September it became known that by the end of 2023, 1.9 million Russians could visit Thailand, which would be a record number. The previous maximum was recorded in 2013. Experts called this forecast realistic, since the high tourist season begins in November.
